Nigerian Buns

Nigerian buns is a dough based snack that originated in West Africa, it's quite similar to the Nigerian puff puff in appearance but the consistency is different. The addition of eggs, butter and milk gives the buns its crunchiness on the outside, also baking powder is used as the rising agent in buns, while yeast in used puff puff.

What you'll need:

  • Frying pan
  • Paper towel
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spatula
  • Ice cream scoop

Ingredients

2 cups All purpose flour

1/2 tsp Baking powder

1/4 cup Sugar

1/2 tsp Grated nutmeg

2 Eggs

4 tbsps. Oil or melted butter

1/4 cup Water

2 tbsps powdered Milk

Instructions

  • Combine all the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, powdered milk ,salt, nutmeg and sugar) in a bowl.
  • In another bowl, combine the “wet ingredients” (eggs, water, oil, ) together
    Next, mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients to make lumpy well combined dough.
  • Use an ice cream scoop to portion n mold the dough into a ball and deep fried the dough in hot oil on medium heat.
  • Fry for a few minutes until the bottom side is golden brown.
  • Turn the ball over and fry for a few more minutes until the other side is golden brown.
  • Transfer on to a paper towel to absorb the excess oil
  • Serve hot as an appetizer with jelly or cool down and eat with a scoop of ice cream as an amazing dessert
